Just today I ran across this inspiring article by Donna Wasson….

Can You Trust the Bible?
by Donna Wasson

The Bible has been the most controversial, maligned, misunderstood, lied about works of literature in all of history. Venerated by some, burned en masse by others, it remains the bestselling book of all time. These facts notwithstanding, are we able to trust what the Bible says? How? After all, it was written by men, changed over the centuries and full of allegorical fairytales, isn’t it?
Allow me to introduce you to what is also called, The Word of God. What I will tell you is verifiable and true and you just might be amazed and even a little disconcerted, that what you’ve probably been told about the Bible is, well, hogwash.

What is the Bible all about? It is the comprehensive explanation of God’s cosmic love and plan for humanity. It was written over a period of 1600 years by 40 different authors who lived on 3 different continents using 3 different languages! And the most remarkable thing about it is that the story told is absolutely cohesive and consistent! The themes and historical accounts do not contradict each other. Think about that

Another exciting event recently took place as a crowd of kids (and parents) came together on a farm in Brandwacht to worship Jesus! Despite pouring rain that broke out in the middle of the worship time, most kids and parents stayed on to continue worshiping in the house.

Enjoy the photos taken at the event

This weekend was the first ever Mighty Family Festival (Following the recent Mighty Men and Worthy Women conferences across South Africa).

Our stall at the Mighty Family Gathering

It was a lovely hot day on Yellowoods farm when different gospel artists and speakers started to praise the name of Jesus from the balcony of the Yellowoods Restaurant. Families slowly arrived and spread out on picnic blankets  and camping chairs in the shade of trees and tents setup on the bank of the river. Kids played together and parents sat down to listen to the music and speakers.

It was a relatively small group (+_ 100) that listened intently that evening to Fergus Buchan preach on Eph 5, 6 specifically addressing wives, husbands and children, highlighting each’s role and responsibility in a godly family, but the size of the group did not diminish the effect on each person who really took the message to heart that evening. It was very special when at the end every family stood up together to pray and the evening ended appropriately with praise and worship.

Staying the night

The next morning everyone bundled into the restaurant for  the morning service as God has answered the previous night’s prayers for rain! In the Gap Clothing‘s stall, thankfully, was relatively waterproof! Fergus Buchan spoke again, this time on Faith, urging us to trust God and be obedient in faith according to Hebr 11. Many stood at the end when the invitation was to trust God for healing in their bodies as Fergus prayed.

The weekend was very special to everyone who attended and an expectation was birthed as to what lies ahead the next year when we meet as families. This after all is only the beginning of Mighty Families and we will trust God that this will become a yearly event that will touch thousands of families from across South Africa.

Our stall at the Freedom Road Bikers Rally
Windy Stilbaai. That was my first impression, when we arrived at Ellenrust Campsite early Friday morning to set up stall for the Freedom Road Bikers Rally. I was glad we decided to come with the caravan and not our tent. But as unwelcome as the weather, so friendly and welcoming was the people we met. Not too long and we had someone helping us with the caravan’s tent and everyone greeted and welcomed us warmly.

Pretty soon, we felt like family. And that is what I experienced that whole weekend. The CMA coffee tent, across from us (good location! :-) ) boasted with the slogan: “Come as you are”. And people did. Everyone did. No one pretended to be more or less of who they were and for me the message of the weekend was that Jesus’ arms, and the church of God’s arms are open to anyone and everyone without judgement. After all, why try to change yourself, before coming to the One who truly can change you (and soooo much better than we can!)

And the weather didn’t hold anyone back from having a good time! Bikers (and some non-bikers) from everywhere enjoyed the games, messages, worship and “kuier” . The highlight of Saturday was when everyone gathered in the street and watched amazed as some of the bikers did some stunts. Wheelies, burn-outs and stoppies (honestly did not know what this was before I saw it!) It was great.

Thanks to everyone who came to visit our stall and supported us. It was awesome to meet you all!

Below are some  photos of our time there…
